LINGUISTIC LITERACY CURRICULA

Two different curricula will be produced: one for the training of trainers and the other for the training of final learners.

In both, the educational path will be divided into modules and to each module will be assigned specific tasks. Each module will be fully described in terms of objectives, timelines, topics under discussion, theoretical and practical activities, exercises/practices, learning outcomes.

The activity will be coordinated by the Italian partner ANL with the close cooperation of CND. The other partners will be asked to express opinions and suggestions, and, above all, to participate in the declination and translation of the products in their own languages.

LINGUISTIC LITERACY DIDACTIC MATERIALS

Also in this case two different sets of learning materials will be produced: one for the training of trainers and the other for the training of final learners.

The materials will be of help and will complement the training sessions remotely (Distance Learning, E-Learning …) and in the presence (laboratories and workshops). They will be structured in modules.

Training materials will be prepared on different media: text files, videos, manuals, images, articles and videos freely accessible from the internet as it will be integrated into the e-learning platform and repository. Produced in English and translated into the languages of the partners, will be open source under Creative Commons license.

E-LEARNING PLATFORM AND REPOSITORY

Using the course management system Moodle, the platform will be configured in four different structures modeled according to specific training destinations and related developed curricula:

  • Language literacy workshop for educators
  • Math literacy workshop for educators
  • Language literacy course for learners
  • Math literacy course for learners

The four configurations will provide educational materials (text files, videos, manuals, pictures, articles …) allocating them in the various forms in which each configuration is structured and making use of different repositories, also appropriately structured.

LINGUISTIC LITERACY GUIDELINES

Even if differentiated according to the target (trainers or learners), the guidelines will have a fairly standardized structure like the following that will bring some essential elements peculiar to this type of document.

Each module will consist of the following parts:

  1. Introduction – Why this module?
    1. Preliminary information on the module
    2. What a participant will learn in the module
    3. List of the module content
    4. Technical requirements to complete the module
    5. Achieved objectives
  2. Theatrical lesson/laboratory
    1. Introduction
    2. Program (time necessary for the performance of the module)
    3. List of contents
    4. Exercises
    5. Brief Summary
  3. Module Summary
  4. Keywords used in the lessons
  5. Practice, case study
  6. Spaces, tools and materials needed
  7. Interesting links and further recommendations
  8. References
  9. User help

The guidelines will be accompanied by:

  • the reference curricula
  • the reference teaching
  • the references to E-learning Platform
  • the Edu-docufilm

EDU-DOCUFILM

One of the main output is the creation of an Edu-docufilm titled “Tell Me” that will represent an important educational component to be attached to the guidelines and that will contain an interview with Jacopo Fo.

During and at the sidelines of the main events (multipliers events, courses for migrants, workshops…), the film will document the project activities also reporting the stories of the participants (educators and learners) in a functional manner to the general enjoyment of the output kit: curricula, teaching materials, guidelines…

Some parts also serve as audio-visual tutorial of the other outputs.

The film will be directed by Andrea Anconetani, president of ANL with the support of the other partners. The audio will return the original language of the various interveners with the subtitles in 4 project languages: EN, I, P, S.

The final product will be stored on Youtube, made available on the project website, in the TELL ME platform and partners’ sites, recorded on DVD to be attached to the print publication of the guidelines.

Obviously it will represent a powerful tool for the dissemination activities and to promote the future sustainability of the project.

TELL ME PLATFORM

The platform will be a kind of advanced forum in which interested users (educators, representatives of institutions, associations, migrants …) will find a place of information, exchange and reflection on educational practices aimed at refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants, with particular regard to those inherent literacy (linguistic, mathematical, financial …) of the adult age group. The platform aims to be a social network that is not just a way to share, but a place to work together across borders. In this way, practitioners of different neighborhoods, cities or countries will be able to compare, find and support. The platform will also keep the participants in the training program, both learners and professionals, in touch and aims to widen participation at European level at least. Precisely in order to help the trans-nationality of the product, the platform will be available in English even if national sections will be available where it will be possible to exchange ideas, collaborate and share in the national languages.

Users will have the possibility to start new topics, reply to existing ones, upload their own videos, audio tracks, images, etc.

We have chosen the Mahara technology that around which to build an extremely flexible community platform and able to handle large numbers of users with a cloud-based system.

Mahara is open source and interacts seamlessly with leading Social Networks and Moodle.
